When MMA fighter Andrew Whitney lashed out in frustration following a narrow defeat back in December 2016, the consequences were a lot more serious then he imagined.

'The Beast' had won four consecutive fights prior to coming up against Farkhad Sharipov at Titan Fight Championship 42 and was understandably gutted when he heard he had lost the bout.

He intended to punch the air but having been completely unaware that an unsuspecting ring girl was stood behind him, he ended up catching her square in the face.

Fortunately, the girl wasn't hurt despite the wicked right hook and Whitney was quick to apologise. Still, Titan FC issued a statement on the matter.

"Our ring card girl was attended to by the ringside doctor and official," Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson said, as per the Daily Mail.

"She indicated she was fine and was more surprised by the punch than injured.

"Titan FC is broadcast around the world and we expect our athletes to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.

"We have spoken with Andrew Whitney and his management and are taking appropriate actions to make sure this unforeseen incident is not repeated."

Recently, a referee was caught in the crossfire during a kickboxing bout, taking a huge spinning kick to the chest as he tried to officiate the fight.

Dutchman Joop Ubeda was caught by Robin Ciric during an Enfusion 91 clash, though both fighters were quick to show their concerns for him.

After taking the kick like a champ, he was then able to call the rest of the fight, which saw Ciric emerge victorious in round three courtesy of a flying knee knockout.

And Enfusion decided he was well and truly the MVP of the evening by giving him the prestigious 'fighter of the night' for his efforts.
