Conor McGregor comfortably secured his place as the highest-paid athlete in the world in 2020 ahead of Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The UFC superstar made his long-awaited MMA return in 2020 as he stopped Donald Cerrone in stunning fashion at UFC 246.

However, McGregor's UFC comeback run was dealt a major blow in January as Dustin Poirier sealed a sensational second-round TKO win at UFC 257.

The 32-year-old Irishman will be aiming to avenge his defeat to MMA rival Poirier when the pair complete their trilogy showdown at UFC 264 on 10th July.

Despite McGregor's limited appearances inside the octagon since 2020, the Notorious secured a hefty $28m in fight earnings.

But Sportico has revealed that the future UFC Hall of Famer's overall earnings came in a staggering $208m, a whopping $180m which came through endorsements.

Finishing a distant second to McGregor was Messi, who earned a whopping $126m through his football earnings and endorsements.
