UFC's very own version of Mortal Kombat could be kicked off in a huge way, with Colby Covington lobbying to face Tyron Woodley on Dana White's fight island.

Former welterweight champion Woodley was scheduled to face Brit Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC London on 21 March before the show was nixed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

He claims he proposed doing battle with Covington at UFC 249, now taking place at a resort in California on April 18, and that 'Chaos' rejected the opportunity.

However, the outspoken UFC star has now doubled down on those claims and issued a huge call-out for the eagerly anticipated fight to take on the private island that UFC have secured.

"I offered my services," Covington told MMA Fighting.

"I really wanted to fight Tyron Woodley on six days' notice to save the UFC London main event. 'Cause I thought they were coming to the US and I thought it would be a great opportunity to save that fight and do it on ESPN for the people.

"While the people are stuck at home, I can be the one, the saviour to save sports. Sports is dead, everybody's dying for something, and they're dying for this fight.

"This fight is multiple years in the making. This fight is beyond personal. There is a serious beef between me and Tyron Woodley, and it needs to be settled.

"The only way it is going to be settled is, we're going to do it on Dana White's fight island, I'm going to end that b*tch. He's going to be dead and they can just throw his dead body to the sharks."

Earlier this week, White shed light on his plan b to give fight fans their fix - that being acquiring a private island that would allow international fighters to compete.

"I am a day or two away from securing a private island," White told TMZ.

"I have a private island that I've secured; we're getting the infrastructure put in now, so I'm gonna start doing the international fights, too.

"With international fighters, because I won't be able to get international fighters into the U.S., I have a private island that I'm gonna start flying them all in and doing international fights from there.

"So as of April 18th, the UFC is back up and running."

In an unprecedented but wholly exciting move, White plans to have fights taking place every week on the island and says UFC have their own planes to fly talent in and out of the yet-to-be-revealed location.
