A clip of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier's incredible post-fight exchange after their bout at UFC 242 is doing the rounds again on social media amid the controversy surrounding Conor McGregor.
Earlier this week, Dustin Poirier accused McGregor of failing to live up to his promise of donating $500,000 to the American's charity The Good Fight Foundation, which helps fund food insecurity, health care and disaster relief to the underprivileged in his hometown of Louisiana.
That's a fun prediction! @TheNotoriousMMA you also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January.- The Diamond (@DustinPoirier) April 11, 2021
See you soon.
July 10th Paid In Full!
'The Diamond' publicly outed his rival on Twitter for allegedly not paying up, meanwhile a furious McGregor quickly hit back at Poirier, using the fact they are set to have a third fight as part of the reason behind his thinking.
The former two weight UFC champion also responded by claiming he wouldn't donate because he wasn't told how the money was being used.
McGregor and Poirier were set to run it back for a third time at UFC 264 in Las Vegas on July 10 but it looks like that could be in doubt after the Irishman claimed his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier is now off.
A donation, not a debt. We've been awaiting the plans for the money that never came. I do with all my donations. Know where it's going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right.- Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) April 12, 2021
100% never a debt. You offered, we accepted, and like I said your Team never responded to our emails regarding the process of where funds would be put to work! July 10th you will taste defeat yet Again https://t.co/k3Cu9DG1Me- The Diamond (@DustinPoirier) April 12, 2021
Amid the controversy, a clip of Khabib Nurmagomedov's post-fight chat with Poirier has gone viral.
The Russian maintained his unbeaten streak at UFC 242 when he successfully locked in a rear-naked chokehold and retained the UFC lightweight championship.
Khabib then proceeded to wear the former interim lightweight champ's fight shirt after their showdown and promised to sell it and donate all of the money from it to The Good Fight Foundation.
Here is that exchange between Khabib and Poirier. Classy.
Nurmagomedov kept true to his promise and donated $100,000 to the foundation. In fact, UFC president Dana White matched his donation.
Poirier was thrilled with the money raised by Khabib and White and said that "it's going to help a lot of people."
He told MMA Junkie: "I'm proud of that. I appreciate them helping out the charity. It's been growing and I'm very grateful for that."
