Dillon Danis has been slammed by MMA fans after sending out a 'tasteless' tweet about Khabib Nurmagomedov after the former UFC star's retirement.

Khabib, 32, made his hotly anticipated UFC return on Saturday when he clashed with Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 for the lightweight championship.

And the 'Eagle' extended his undefeated record to 29-0 after he superbly locked in a triangle chokehold and forced a submission victory in the second round.

However, an emotional Khabib shocked the whole world after the fight as he announced his retirement from MMA.

Tributes poured in for the undefeated Russian star on social media, but Danis was not one of them.

Khabib infamously scaled the octagon cage and charged towards Danis after his victory over fierce rival Conor McGregor in their blockbuster UFC 229 clash in 2018.

And it would seem that bad blood is still in the air for Danis as he fired out a shot at the 'Eagle' in a now-deleted tweet.

The 27-year-old American tweeted: "Khabib is retiring because he's scared of @TheNotoriousMMA."

Fans wasted no time in taking to social media and blasting McGregor's teammate for sending out the tweet after Khabib's retirement.

McGregor, on the other hand, paid tribute to his fierce rival on social media and vowed to continue fighting on in MMA.

Speaking at the UFC 254 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White admitted that Khabib had broken his foot three weeks before the Gaethje clash.

Khabib paid tribute to Gaethje in a classy post-fight interview and told him to be 'close with his parents' after the tragic passing of his own father, Abdulmanap, in July.

Following his retirement at UFC 254, the 'Eagle' took to Instagram and sent out a fitting tribute to his late father.

Khabib wrote to his 23.5m followers: "When ALLAH with you, nobody can broke you, nobody. Thanks Father for everything, you teach all my life, may ALLAH grant you the highest Paradise [sic]."
