UFC Could Still 'Screw' Tony Ferguson By Booking Conor McGregor vs Khabib II

UFC Could Still 'Screw' Tony Ferguson By Booking Conor McGregor vs Khabib II

Now this would be controversial.

Former middleweight contender Chael Sonnen believes the UFC could 'screw' Tony Ferguson by booking a rematch between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ferguson, who was supposed to fight Khabib on April 18th until the Russian pulled out after being grounded in Russia, will now face Justin Gaethje in an interim lightweight title fight.

The winner of Ferguson vs Gaethje, which is set to take place at the rearranged UFC 249 event in Florida on May 9th, will seemingly earn a unification bout against Khabib.

But former UFC fighter Sonnen believes there's a chance 'El Cucuy' could be screwed over in favour of a dream bout between Conor McGregor and his long term rival Nurmagomedov.

"I know everything that has been said, 'We're going to keep Conor on ice against Khabib." he told Submission Radio.

"The winner of Khabib and Tony in September.' But of course, that was believing that Khabib was going to win.

"You have to understand if that is still the plan, then that means we're getting ready to pull the screw job on Tony a second time."

Sonnen goes on to explain why he thinks the UFC could deny Ferguson a shot at the Russian.

He cites the time they stripped him of the interim lightweight title at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, when Ferguson tore a ligament in his knee and needed surgery.

"They promised Tony an interim world title fight a second time." he continued.

"The first time he did it, he never lost it and then all of a sudden that belt is gone.

"We as fans cannot allow that to happen. If Tony comes out of this thing, Tony needs to be fighting Khabib. And at some point, if they try to slide Conor [in there], which is likely, maybe not like, possible, that means we've screwed Tony a second time. We can' let that happen."
