In recent days rumours have swirled about Conor McGregor potential return in the coming year, 15 months after his last UFC bout against Eddie Alvarez.

Now, in his latest Instagram post, the 29-year-old has confirmed that he will return to the UFC 'period.'

Conor McGregor also revealed that he offered to face Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 next month, after Max Holloway pulled out.

The 29-year-old put his name forward to step in at UFC 222 to face Edgar when Holloway pulled out, but was told "there wasn't enough time to generate the money that the UFC would need.

"I am fighting again. Period. I am the best at this." McGregor said on his official Instagram page.

"I put my name forward to step in at UFC 222 to face Frankie Edgar when Max Holloway pulled out, but I was told there wasn't enough time to generate the money that the UFC would need. I was excited about bouncing in last minute and taking out the final featherweight, without all the rest of the stuff that comes with this game.

"Please respect the insane amount of work outside the fight game that I have put in. On top of the fighting. I am here. It is on them to come and get me. Because I am here. Yours sincerely, The Champ Champ."

The question remains. Who will McGregor fight next?

He responded to Nurmagomedov's devastating UFC 219 performance, the Russian who returned to the famed Octagon after battling with injuries.

The lightweight contender extended his perfect professional record to 25-0 by battering Edson Barboza for three straight rounds, but his dominant outing didn't impress McGregor.

McGregor posted: "That Dagestani was dog shit the other night you's are all nuts. Game full of sloppy bums asking to be slept. Pay me my worth and Kings back."

Nurmagomedov replied with just a few words: "Shut up #TapMashine" accompanied with a chicken emoji.
