Colby Covington said he suffered a broken jaw after being hit so hard by Kamaru Usman during their title fight at UFC 245.
Usman stopped Covington in the fifth round of their main-event bout to defend his UFC welterweight title and he inflicted some serious damage on his opponent.
In the third round, Usman landed a clean straight right hand flush on Covington's jaw and once the round ended, 'Chaos' told his corner he broke his jaw.
"I think I broke my jaw," he told his head coach Conan Silveira in between rounds.
Covington continued to fight and appeared to win the following round, but his jaw couldn't hold up in the final stanza as Usman dropped him twice before securing a late stoppage victory.
Covington was transported to a hospital following his UFC 245 defeat with scans revealing he did indeed break his jaw.
Reliable source just told me Colby Covington's jaw is broken. 100%. Had a scan at the hospital. Tough dude.- Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) December 15, 2019
Speaking after the bout, 'The Nigerian Nightmare' said: "This one's not just for me. This one's for the whole entire world right now.
"He was tough as nails. He caught me a few times. My mind is stronger than all these guys.
"I'm the best in the world. I'm going to keep improving and I'm going to give you guys a show each and every time."
UFC president Dana White spoke to reporters after the event and said he plans to book a title fight between Usman and BMF champion Jorge Masvidal.
Usman, meanwhile, improves his record to 16-1 which includes an 11-fight win streak inside the Octagon.
