UFC Want To Plan Tournament Featuring Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Khabib and GSP

Why can't we just have this? It would be absolutely epic.

Brace yourselves, fighting fans, because the UFC wanted a mini-tournament which would feature some of the biggest names in the business.

The promotion want to roll out this mini competition, following the conclusion of UFC 223 in New York.

It would include four massive MMA names, with the eventual winners set to face off at the end of the year.

The lightweight division would be showcased, with fighters Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz and Georges St-Pierre and champion Khabib Nurmagomedov all competing.

This would smash PPV figures for the UFC, no doubt.

Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting reports that Diaz will take on St-Pierre, and the winner of that match would go onto face the victor out of the Notorious McGregor and Nurmagomedov, a fight that should be taking place in September.

The reporter said: ""After UFC 223, a plan was put in place for a mini tournament involving four of the biggest stars in MMA: Khabib vs. McGregor and GSP vs. Diaz. Winners face off. That stalled. And now Khabib wants GSP."

However, there is a couple of issues: McGregor's legal proceedings could prove troublesome, after he was involved in an attack on a coach carrying UFC fighters. The promotion hope he will be available in time.

There is another snag to the plan. Fighter Diaz is looking for big bucks and his potential opponent, St-Pierre, has come out to say that he's not well enough to compete in the Octagon. The 37-year-old said via MMAfighting:

"I need to wait until all the symptoms of my ulcer stop. It's much better than it was but it's not 100 percent yet. If I try to return for a training camp for a fight it will amplify and go back to what it was in the beginning. I need to get over this first for my own health and safety."

We hope GSP can get back to his fighting self and we see this competition take off. It would be a blast.
