Gaethje beat Tony Ferguson in the main-event of UFC 249 to claim the UFC interim lightweight title earlier this year.
A clash with McGregor has been mooted with the pair of fighters exchanging verbal jabs on social media ahead of a potential showdown inside the famed Octagon.
And if the fight does come to fruition, it'll be a bout 'The Highlight' has been campaigning for following his direct message to 'The Notorious' in March 2019.
"Fight me in Ireland. I need that chaos in my life," Gaethje wrote in a DM to McGregor.
The UFC interim champion aimed a dig at McGregor who walked away from the UFC in June, but he has teased a comeback.
"I tweeted that he [Conor] is losing his clout," he told Brett Okamoto. "I don't mean [that] in general, like with the general public.
"But with fighters, man? This guy, he's losing so much respect in the game, [about] which he probably doesn't care.
"But to someone like me, and even him, I would assume that that matters a little bit."
Gaethje added: "He doesn't hold the cards right now! I put myself in a great position! I asked for a say in my destiny, and I went out there.
"And I showed up. I'm in a spot where I can pick between Khabib and Conor.
"If I wanna fight Conor, I can fight Conor. Believe me. Of course, why wouldn't Dana put [that fight] together? But that's not the fight I want!
"His only [play] is he's 'Mr. Red Panty-Night'. Not everybody's a greedy motherf**ker like him. I think, for one, whenever I beat Khabib and then I beat Conor, in these times, under this microscope, [that is] legendary."
