Eddie Alvarez remains the only man to ever verbally destroy Conor McGregor and the way he did it was brutal.

The duo went toe to toe 48 hours before their fight at UFC 205 back in 2016.

McGregor is widely known to be one of the best trash talkers in combat sport but Alvarez had his number.

"You were on welfare bra. You ain't no man, you took welfare," the American said after McGregor insisted that he's the definitive UFC cash cow.

"Don't you talk about money. You took money from single moms, single moms go on welfare.

"Don't talk about money. Keep your mouth shut when you talk about money."

McGregor had previously been on welfare and the comments clearly had an impact as he stayed silent.

Fans on Twitter have recently commented on the jab as McGregor inches closer to a return.

McGregor did go on to silence Alvarez in the fight to win the UFC Lightweight Championship.

The Irishman made his returned to the UFC earlier this year and defeated Donald Cerrone in quick fashion.

Many have speculated who he'll be facing next and many have speculated his next opponent could be Justin Gaethje.

The endgame for McGregor is longtime rival Khabib Nurmagomedov who he lost to back in 2018.

Khabib's manager Ali Abdelaziz has stated McGregor would have to defeat Gaethje for a shot at 'The Eagle'.

UFC president Dana White has since responded to his suggestion, but he hasn't given much away: "We'll see," he said with a smirk on his face. "We'll see."

Abdelaziz said McGregor will not get a shot at fighting Nurmagomedov until he defeats the No.4 ranked UFC lightweight Gaethje.

"If Khabib wins on April 18, Conor McGregor is not getting a title shot - simple," he told ESPN.

"Dana White is the best promoter of all time because he understands fighting and matchmaking. The only way Conor McGregor can fight for a title is if he beats someone like Justin Gaethje.

"if he were to do that, it would be hard to deny him."
