Khabib Nurmagomedov has insisted his training methods haven't changed in the lead up to his fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 - despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The duo have had four previous meetings cancelled for a variety of reasons and fans are fearing a fifth cancellation due to Covid-19.

However, the Russian took to Instagram to update fans on his preparation.

He wrote:

"I don't understand what is going on outside the gym.

"I am in the gym and I am working hard. What will happen next no-one knows."

US President Donald Trump has declared the coronavirus outbreak a 'national emergency' while the Govenor of New York has issued a state-wide ban on gatherings.

Khabib and Ferguson's bout is currently scheduled for April 18 at the Barclays Center in New York.

The 31-year-old's manager Ali Abdelaziz has insisted in recent days that the fight will be happening one way or another.

"Guys Khabib Nurmagomedov vs sunglasses (Tony Ferguson) is happening April 18th," he posted on Twitter.

"UFC always find a way with or without fans this fight is going down people at home need entertainment."

UFC president Dana White poked fun at the potential cancellation with a meme on Instagram on Thursday.

He shared the popular 'What if he's thinking about other girls' format on social media with 'What if Covid-19 cancels Tony vs Khabib' as the caption.

White, meanwhile, was asked about the pandemic at the UFC 249 press conference last Friday.

"When it comes to safety of the athletes and the fans and everything else, no matter where we go or what we do, we're always concerned," he explained.

"We've been thinking about this for weeks. (UFC) Dr. (Jeffrey) Davidson has been involved. I don't know what else to say other than that."
