Conor McGregor made the crazy prediction that Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson would not happen at UFC 249 - back in January.

Khabib confirmed last night that he won't be able to make it for the show's main event as he is currently stranded in his native Russia due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the announcement quotes have begun to resurface from January showing why McGregor has earn the nickname of 'Mystic Mac'.

UFC president Dana White told TMZ per MMA Junkie back at the start of the year: "Here's the thing - realistically, Conor believes that Khabib vs. Tony Ferguson will not happen.

"We've tried to do this fight many, many times. Conor believes it won't happen.

"Conor wanted to do this [Donald Cerrone at UFC 246] fight at 170 because he wants to turn right around and jump right in and fight Khabib if that fight doesn't happen."

It's unlikely 'The Notorious' expected it to be cancelled in these circumstances but he was still right in the fact that the fight will not be happening on April 18.

Many have speculated if McGregor could be a last minute replacement for 'The Eagle' against Ferguson but it looks unlikely, with Justin Gaethje the probable stand-in.

Khabib took to Instagram to post a lengthy statement explaining why he'll be absent from the show.

He wrote: "Staying home in quarantine and reading the reaction of people to the situation around my fight, it turns out that the whole world should be in quarantine, governments of all countries, famous people around the world urge people to follow all safety requirements in order to limit the spread of the disease, to save people, and Khabib is the only one relieved of all obligations and must demonstrate free will and train flying around the world, for the sake of fight?

"I understand everything and I'm definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can't control it all.

"But Khabib still has to fight, is that what you saying?

"Take care of yourself and put yourself in my shoes."

Ferguson was quick to take aim at the lightweight champion after the statement and he also took shots at McGregor.

"Khabib, I believe he already knew that he wasn't going to fight," 'El Cucuy' told Ariel Helwani on ESPN, "He bailed out, man. He bailed out."

Turning his attentions to the former 'Champ-champ', Ferguson continued with: "I'm a hitman. Khabib and Conor running around with their tails between their legs like a f**king dog. I run with the dog's man, and these guys ain't dog. They're a bunch of p**sies. Khabib's a b*tch. I told him I was gonna mop the f***ing floor with his hat, the dude jammed out.

"Whether or not it's Khabib, whether or not it's Conor, I'm all for just whooping somebody's ass. I already beat the top five in the round-robin, and now they want me to reset and give me another top five? I don't f***ing think so. I'm the champion already."
