Velasquez has been out of action for a LONG time. Too long.
His last bout was way back at UFC 200 in 2016. That night, he put on a masterful performance. He absolutely destroyed Travis Browne, earning a vicious TKO in round 1.
But he was unable to string together a run of fights due to niggling injuries including a serious back problem, which kept him on the sideline for a lengthy spell.
However, Velasquez is now on the mend and his next contest has been tentatively scheduled.
According to Ariel Helwani, he's set to make his anticipated return to the famed Octagon on February 17th.
That's not all the good news. UFC are looking to match him up against knockout artist Francis Ngannou.
UFC is in serious talks to book Cain Velasquez vs. Francis Ngannou as the main event for UFC Phoenix on Feb. 17, according to multiple sources. The fight isn't finalized just yet, sources say, but is currently moving in the right direction. https://t.co/ujYDrFevm4

OH SWEET BABY JESUS.

The French-Cameroonian, aptly nicknamed 'The Predator, returned to the win column against Curtis Blaydes in China, last month.
Ngannou lost his first UFC fight in a title bout versus Stipe Miocic, then lost his second to Derrick Lewis.
Though after recording his 12th professional victory, he's now in line to welcome Velasquez back to the cage.
Velasquez vs. Ngannou is slated to headline 'UFC on ESPN 1' which takes place on February 17th in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Cali-native will be hoping to earn another shot at UFC gold. But the belt is currently in possession of his teammate Daniel Cormier.
The two American Kick-boxing Academy pupils won't be fighting each other though 'DC' is contemplating retirement in 2019.
