Dana White has shut down Jorge Masvidal's money-making plans to fight Conor McGregor.

Masvidal stopped Ben Askren in spectacular fashion at UFC 239 and he immediately set his sights on two names following the biggest victory of his career; UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and McGregor.

"Definitely the title, definitely Kamaru Usman interests me," Masvidal said. "He's got the title and that's what I want but he's always having injuries and things are happening.

"I want [Conor] McGregor. I want to break his face. I think that's an easy paycheck. He's got these cash symbols written all over his face for me. I just don't see it going his way if I'm honest with you."

However, the UFC president, who previously said he didn't like the match-up between McGregor and Masvidal, has rejected the American's idea stating that he can't make ultimatums in the UFC.

"You can't make ultimatums," White said about Masvidal. "Listen, we're going to offer him a fight, and if he accepts the fight, he does and if he doesn't, he doesn't."

So, Masvidal won't be fighting McGregor or for the title in his next fight with Usman set to face Colby Covington, who outpointed Robbie Lawler at UFC on ESPN 5 over the weekend.

Chael Sonnen, though, has put forward his argument for why the promotion ought to book McGregor vs. Masvidal

"Conor vs. Masvidal is a really big fight," he said on his podcast. "It's heel vs. heel. It's bad guy vs. bad guy. Who could be worse? It's amazing.

"From a box office standpoint, it's amazing. And I feel as though the storyline has already been laid a little bit and Conor does need something to do and Masvidal does deserve something big to do.

"I'm not predicting for you guys that you're gonna see Masvidal and Conor next, I'm not. But what I am saying is it is not a discussion or a narrative that needs to be just brushed off the table. It's on the table. It's on the table for sure. Something great is gonna happen for Jorge Masvidal. Something great always happens for Conor McGregor. We get it. It's worth talking about."

Masvidal's riding an impressive two-fight win streak with scalps over Darren Till and Askren as he awaits his next challenge.

McGregor, on the other hand, continues to be linked with a host of fighters including former foe Jose Aldo.
