Conor McGregor has named the blockbuster rematch with Nate Diaz as his "most important" fight of his illustrious fighting career.

The Diaz rematch was a make or break moment for McGregor, who was undefeated in the UFC prior to his first meeting with the Stockton slugger.

And the Irishman echoed this sentiment when reminiscing on the second fight with Diaz. He took to social media to reveal the magnitude of the rematch.

"UFC 202: McGregor Vs Diaz 2 on @btsport now! Incredible fight! The most important of my life," he wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

McGregor exacted revenge over Diaz by edging a majority decision after a five-round war.

A trilogy bout has been mooted and McGregor welcomed a third fight following his triumphant UFC comeback in January.

"Let's go Nathan. Let's go brother," he said during the UFC 246 post-fight press conference. "No. 3. It's always here. We're right here Nathan."

McGregor's coach John Kavanagh believes a third fight is "inevitable".

"I'm not going to lie; I'm a fan of Nate Diaz and the Diaz brothers" he told talkSPORT.

"The two fights they had were fantastic, we're 1-1. So, it seems inevitable that those paths are going to cross again but let's see what happens."
