Conor McGregor believes Jose Aldo "looks more than on top" of his extreme weight cut ahead of his bantamweight debut at UFC 245.

Aldo will make his first appearance as a bantamweight at UFC 245 on December 14. He has a reported 16lbs to cut before hitting the scales ahead of facing Marlon Moraes in Las Vegas.

Fans have voiced their concerns, but McGregor isn't worried for his former opponent and has defended his decision to drop down in weight.

"I disagree here. He looks more than on top of it in my experienced opinion," he said in reply to Ariel Helwani's Tweet of concern.

"Well trimmed in advance, and naturally a lighter man now. This can only be done over a long length of time and with complete dedication. Respect! I wish him well and am excited to see him in this division."

McGregor then put forward a case as to why Aldo is heading to bantamweight at this stage of his career.

"The rejuvenation of your career with fresh goals and targets! The prestige of being a UFC World champion in two weight divisions! The feeling of excitement you will give the fans with all the new potential match-ups that can be made! All great and valid reasons!"

Aldo currently weighs around 152lbs just a week out from making weight. The ex-UFC featherweight champion has revealed he has been eating two pounds of salad a day to make bantamweight.

"Yeah, I've always done that, but this time I can't [eat steak]," he explained.

"Only if it were a vegan steak house, salads only. I'm eating that a lot now, almost two pounds of salad a day. But I'll be able to do that the Saturday after the fight."
