A UFC fan has theorised that Conor McGregor's's recent comments about Khabib Nurmagomedov's father are down an Instagram post from Abubakar Nurmagomedov.

McGregor recently came under criticism for calling Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov's current health issues a "cover-up."

Fans have wondered where the unprovoked attack came from but one eagle-eyed Reddit user may have cracked the case.

In the image above, you'll see the post which has since been deleted alongside McGregor's message of support to Abdulmanap back in May.

'The Notorious' posted a stinging message on the post which read: "I figured it was all just a cover up about Abdulmanap.

"A cover up to hide the lack of activity and the pulling out of fights and running away. Good luck but remember - Allah sees all!"

Nurmagomedov was hospitalised in May after suffered a stroke caused by coronavirus complications, with the 57-year-old still in a serious condition.

Khabib's manager Ali Abdelaziz had his say on McGregor's comment and called him "the lowest scum on this earth" in a now deleted tweet.

Lightweight champion Khabib recently updated fans on his father's condition and revealed he is now coronavirus free.

"His condition is still serious, he's still in intensive care.

"The coronavirus itself is behind him, but the virus has had consequences for his kidneys and his heart.

"As for the virus, there's no need to worry, only about the other consequences.

"I visit him, he recognises me, but there's no communication because he's connected to [medical] devices.

"Every day they let me in, I spend half an hour [with him], I hold his hand.

"When I ask: 'Father, do you recognise me?' He gestures and lets me know."

Khabib is set to return to the octagon in September with UFC 253 a mooted event for his clash with interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.

McGregor, meanwhile, announced his retirement from UFC for the third time in four years earlier this month.
