Khabib Nurmagomedov says he's expecting Dana White to call him to hold talks about a blockbuster rematch with Conor McGregor if he beats Tony Ferguson.

Nurmagomedov makes the third defence of his UFC lightweight title at UFC 249 on April 18 when he faces No.1 contender Ferguson.

McGregor is in line to take on the winner with the unbeaten Russian anticipating a phone call from the UFC president about running it back.

When asked about a second meeting, the 31-year-old said: "This guy [Dana White] is going to call me. He's going to call me 100 per cent.

"Dana, please don't call me. If you want, let's go - but he's going to call me. We'll see. But let's focus on Tony Ferguson right now."

Nurmagomedov stopped McGregor in October 2018 and he's since defended his belt against Dustin Poirier while the Irishman returned to action in January when he destroyed Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds.

But the 155lb king brutally slammed McGregor's victory at UFC 246.

"'Cowboy' always loses all his main-event fights, always. I don't remember when he win. In the last 10 fights, I think he's lose 7 times -- six or seven times," he explained.

"He's not high-level lightweight or welterweight right now. He's not. Of course, he has a big name but his time is finished.

"Conor [needs to] pick very good opponent. Now he come back and beat 'Cowboy,' who lose last 10 fights seven times, and then they talk about this guy come back.

"No, he has to fight really tough opponents like Justin Gaethje or something like this. He has to come back to lightweight division. He has to cut welterweight, and this is just my opinion."

McGregor, meanwhile, is believed to be on standby for the UFC 249 clash should either main-event fighter pull out.

However, he's also been linked with a summer fight against Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz, who called him out on social media.
