Khabib Nurmagomedov believes Justin Gaethje is the most dangerous challenger in the lightweight division and refused to acknowledge Conor McGregor as a potential opponent.

Nurmagomedov is set to return to action next month when he defends his lightweight title against interim champion Gaethje at UFC 254.

And the Russian says 'The Highlight' is the biggest threat to his UFC belt at the moment.

He also claimed that Ferguson's time has "passed" and refused to mention McGregor's name, dismissing his long-time rival as a future opponent.

When asked about the most dangerous contender in the UFC lightweight division, the 28-0 fighter replied: "At the moment, it's Gaethje. Ferguson's time has passed and the other one, what's there to even discuss?"

He added: "We've already talked to him on 6th October."

Nurmagomedov hasn't fought since his submission victory over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 last September.

But he'll make his highly-anticipated comeback on October 24 when he faces Gaethje in an undisputed showdown.

The unbeaten superstar then wants to fight UFC legend Georges St-Pierre next year before retiring from MMA.

Though his head coach Javier Mendez believes Dana White will look to book a rematch against McGregor.

"If I'm the UFC and I'm the president, I'm not going to let that fight off the table," he told Express Sport.

"Especially if Conor wants to fight and Khabib is still the champion. Then you can make that fight.

"I wouldn't let them [not fight]. That's my job, right? To make the most money for the company."

He added: "Let's put it this way: If that makes the most money out of anybody, then that means it's the most interesting fight people want to see. Correct?

"Obviously I would think everybody still wants to see that fight. Otherwise, why would they pay for it. That's why I think the UFC would do that."
