Newly minted interim-UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has revealed his game plan to beat UFC lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Gaethje beat Tony Ferguson in the main-event of UFC 249 to capture the interim-UFC lightweight title.

His excellent victory over 'El Cucuy' sets up an undisputed clash with reigning and defending UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov.

And ahead of their championship meeting, 'The Highlight' has explained how he'll be the man to inflict a first professional defeat on the Russian's incredible record.

"I'll do it the same exact way that I have done it for every single fight. I will work to be my best self. I'm so athletic," he told ESPN.

"The first thing to go when you get tired is your legs. So, from now on till then, I'm gonna be running a lot, jump roping a lot, lot of airdyne, lot of step-ups, a lot of squats. If my legs are in shape, I don't get tired.

"And if I don't get tired then I can get back up. And if I can get back up, I can hit him. If I can hit him, I hit like a truck. I only gotta kick him 8 times in the calves before he is compromised."

Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje is penciled in for September according to UFC president Dana White with the winner in line to face Conor McGregor, whose called for a showdown with the American star.
