Justin Gaethje Told How To Beat Khabib Nurmagomedov By UFC Star Who Has Faced Them Both

Justin Gaethje Told How To Beat Khabib Nurmagomedov By UFC Star Who Has Faced Them Both

Dustin Poirier says Justin Gaethje "can give Khabib Nurmagomedov some trouble" if he keeps the fight in the middle of the Octagon.

Poirier has fought both Gaethje and Nurmagomedov during his glittering MMA career.

And 'The Diamond' believes 'The Highlight' is capable of producing a shock when he meets 'The Eagle' at UFC 253 in September.

"I do think that if Gaethje can keep the fight in the middle of the octagon, he can give Khabib some trouble," he explained.

"I think it's going to be hard to get him down in the open space. Definitely hard to hold him down in the open space."

He added: "But will Justin be able to keep his back off the fence and land those shots and make Khabib work for takedowns in the open? That's the big question."

Poirier lost to Nurmagomedov but beat Gaethje and he was asked who he was backing ahead of their championship clash.

"Let the best fighter win," he replied. Whoever performs the best that night, whoever prepared the best that night, get their hand raised. Whoever that is.

"Let the better fighter win. That's all I've got to say. I'm not really rooting for anybody in that fight."

Poirier, meanwhile, returned to action over the weekend as he defeated Dan Hooker in a 'Fight of the Year' contender at UFC Vegas 4.
