Dana White has claimed Conor McGregor won't be in Abu Dhabi for Khabib Nurmagomedov's anticipated return to the UFC, but the Irishman will be watching his rival fight at UFC 242.

McGregor will watch Nurmagomedov's main-event showdown against Dustin Poirier from home opposed to being cage side so there's no chances of him gatecrashing UFC 242.

"He won't be here," White said when asked if McGregor will be in Abu Dhabi for this weekend's event.

"I talk to Conor, normally, twice a month. I talked to him last night, this morning. No, he won't be here. But he'll be watching."

White was then asked about his exchanges with McGregor.

"He was talking about my sunburn yesterday, so we're not talking about anything serious," he jokingly added.

McGregor's hoping to return to the UFC before the end of the year, though White says his comeback fight depends on the recovery of his hand injury.

"I don't know. I honestly don't know," White replied on McGregor's time frame. "It's all going to depend on his hand [injury] and how fast it recovers."

Nurmagomedov returns to the Octagon for the first time since his submission victory over McGregor last October, and he has no regrets about the post-fight brawl.

"I wouldn't change anything. What I did I did for a reason, I feel great and it was a great experience for me," said the 27-0 fighter.

"I told people October 6 was the day I was waiting for, it's not my style to talk, of course I told people my plan; I was going to make him tired, change his face, smash his face... and I did everything that I said.

"But everything he said... he did nothing, that's the big difference between us.

"For me I don't like this guy because he punches old people. Sometimes when you are hungry you are different, when you have money you are different and you have to control your emotions.

"He is a big star, how can you punch old people when you are one of the best fighters in the world? The guy could have died, if he had gone down he could have died.

"This shows how he has changed with money, most crazy things are because of money or fame."

McGregor also hasn't fought since UFC 229 but he's eyeing a return to the promotion.

Will he get his rematch with Nurmagomedov? Watch this space.
