UFC president Dana White is hoping for Conor McGregor to return to the UFC in 2021. McGregor retired earlier this year after his win against Donald Cerrone.

Conor McGregor has been in-and-out of retirement now for the past few years in the UFC.

His return in early 2020 was short-lived, coming back to fight Donald Cerrone, winning, then quickly going back into retirement.

McGregor has faced controversy since then, reportedly arrested in Corsia for attempted sexual assault, although he denies the allegations.

However, White is hoping McGregor will be able to put the retirement and the legal issues behind him by the end of the year and step back into the octagon in the first few months of 2021.

"We're actually working on some fun stuff for Conor at the beginning of next year," White told ESPN Sports Center.

"He should be back next year. I'm not saying he's coming back to fight guaranteed, but we're talking about some stuff."

Even though McGregor has been linked with a fight with the likes of Justin Gaethje and Khabib Nurmagomedov, however it will most likely be a different contender before McGregor gets a shot at the top fighters in his respective weight classes.

McGregor claimed that the Cerrone fight earlier this year was set to be the first of three fights he would take in 2020 but partially thanks to the global pandemic and partially due to difficult matchmaking, the Notorious has not fought again and is currently 'retired'.
