Conor McGregor branded Dustin Poirier a "p**sy" just moments before sensationally knocking him at UFC 178.

McGregor and Poirier will run it back for a second time following their featherweight clash in September 2014.

They first met over six years ago when both fighters were in their mid-twenties in a featured bout at UFC 178.

McGregor and Poirier were embroiled in a heated build-up as the Irishman made his Las Vegas debut and he wasted no time in putting away the American, taking him out in the first round.

And 'The Notorious' continued to talk trash inside the Octagon as he said: "What you got p**sy? Is that all you got p**sy?"

He spoke to him literally seconds before recording his fourth UFC win as he clipped him to the temple in a destructive finishing sequence.

Fast forward six years and the pair of UFC stars are meeting again.

McGregor vs. Poirier will headline UFC 257 from 'Fight Island' in Abu Dhabi on January 23.

It'll be the former champ-champ's first fight since the start of the year when he thrashed Donald Cerrone.

Poirier, on the other hand, hasn't fought since his 'Fight of the Year' contender against Dan Hooker in June.

Speaking about McGregor's comeback, UFC president Dana White said: "I don't know [what to expect].

"Obviously Poirier has wanted this fight for so long now, the rematch with Conor. He's a much better fighter than he was the first time they fought. Conor's always dangerous.

"From what I've seen from him on social media, it looks like he's in great shape, he's training hard. Even before this, he was training to do some type of charity bike event.

"The guy's in shape."

Who takes it when McGregor and Poirier renew hostilities at UFC 257? Let us know.
