Conor McGregor’s Incredible Live Gate And PPV Numbers Show His Popularity Surge

Over six years, ‘The Notorious’ has gone from a $1.4 million UFC gate in Dublin to some truly astonishing numbers.

Conor McGregor's amazing growth as a live ticket and pay-per-view attraction can be seen in the raw numbers he's posted during his time in the UFC.

The 31-year-old has gone from drawing a $1.4 million live gate in Dublin in 2014 - hardly chump change his first headline event as a UFC star - to bringing in over $160 million in ticket and PPV sales for his 2018 showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The year-on-year growth is truly amazing.

McGregor's first fight as a PPV main eventer was a huge success, with the Irishman bringing in almost $50 million in buys (plus $7.2 million in ticket sales) for UFC 189 and his knockout of Chad Mendes.

Yet in his next fight in 2015, he dwarfed those numbers for his 13-second KO of Jose Aldo. That live gate broke $10 million, while the PPV numbers leapt to £79 million.

Of course, even that event - and the record-breaking Khabib fight - pale in comparison to what McGregor earned for his pro boxing debut.

The biggest stars in MMA and in boxing going head-to-head meant McGregor's fight with Floyd Mayweather pulled in eye-watering sums. The crossover match-up drew $54 million at the live gate plus $382 million on pay-per-view.

In the history of combat sport, only Mayweather's long-overdue fight with Manny Pacquiao has beaten those numbers - which shows just how powerful McGregor is as an attraction.

The final numbers aren't in for McGregor's 2020 comeback victory over Donald Cerrone, but the Las Vegas gate was estimated to be around $11 million, with over a million individual orders on PPV. So it was another hit.

Clearly McGregor's drawing power hasn't been hugely diminished by his defeat to Khabib.

It's no wonder that - despite his controversies, run-ins with the law and the disagreements between the pair - Dana White is always ready to put on a card headlined by 'The Notorious' at the drop of a hat.

Frankly, McGregor vs White would probably still do million at the box office and on PPV. The headliner for UFC 260? You heard it here first.
