Conor McGregor says he regrets not challenging Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title before boxing Floyd Mayweather.

Reminiscing about his historic battle against Eddie Alvarez, McGregor revealed his regret during a social media rant.

On the four year anniversary of UFC 205, where the Irishman became a two-weight UFC champion, he tweeted: "Currently watching Woodley Wonderboy 1 on BT Sport.

"I should have went for that treble real quick. Pre Floyd. Ah well, the game is still young."

After destroying Alvarez to become the UFC lightweight champion in November 2016, McGregor swapped sports as he fought Mayweather in a lucrative boxing bout in Las Vegas.

But, in hindsight, he reckons he should have stuck around the UFC and competed for the 170lbs belt.

Then UFC welterweight king Woodley responded, saying: "Shoulda woulda wouldn't have."

McGregor, who's set to return to action against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, continued to tweet.

He wrote: "Feeling CONFIDENT!"

In another tweet, he wrote: "Happy World Champ Champ Day @danawhite, @Amanda_Leoa, @HenryCejudo, @dc_mma. Hope you all had a great day."

McGregor added: "World Champ Champ Day, you love to see it."

He continued: "You guys ever see a 4 piece with a side of cheese fries?"

Will McGregor become a three-weight UFC champion before he walks away from the promotion for good?
