Amanda Nunes has responded in jest to a Russian outlet mistakenly describing her as a "transgender athlete".

RT used a picture of the UFC 'champ-champ' in a post titled "Transgender Athletes are DESTROYING women's Sports."

Nunes, an openly gay MMA fighter, responded to their caption by cracking a joke on social media.

"What the F**k?" Nunes wrote in reply to their error. "If I was born with a penis I wouldn't be going through all this trouble to get Nina Ansaroff a baby."

The publication has since issued an apology to the double UFC champion.

"To Amanda Nunes, our video production team mistakenly used your photo in a video which had nothing to do with you. We sincerely apologize. RT greatly respects your achievements and legacy in the world of MMA #MMAGOAT," they wrote on Twitter.

Nunes, meanwhile, last fought in July at UFC 239 where she defended her UFC women's bantamweight title against Holly Holm in stunning fashion.

The Brazilian is set to return to the famed Octagon in December at UFC 245 when she defends her UFC women's bantamweight title against Germaine de Randamie in an anticipated rematch.

They first fought in 2013 where Nunes beat De Randamie by TKO in round one.
