Messages from UFC's Twitter account suggest that Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier's main event bout at UFC 257 will be for the UFC lightweight title.

The two square off inside the Octagon for a second time on 23rd January as UFC head to 'Fight Island' for their first pay-per-view of 2021.

It's a huge bout as it is given it's been a year since the UFC's biggest star destroyed Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds, but the fight may well have just got even bigger going off what fans are being told by UFC's DM chatbot on Twitter.

When asked for information on the UFC 257 card on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the chatbot replied with the following message: "Don't miss Poirier take on McGregor for the lightweight title bout. Who do you think will walk out of the Octagon with the W.?"

There's no official word from Dana White or the UFC as of yet and it could well be a technical error. However, it would indicate that current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is relinquishing the strap.

'The Eagle' announced his retirement from the sport after another dominant victory at UFC 254 when he beat Justin Gaethje to move to 29-0 in MMA.

He has made a promise to his mother that he will never fight again following the death of his father and trainer but White is still hopeful of convincing him to return.

McGregor, who held the lightweight title alongside the featherweight belt after making history with a win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, has promised to deliver a "masterpiece" at UFC 257.

The first encounter between he and Poirier was at featherweight back in 2014 at UFC 178. McGregor put 'The Diamond' away in the first round at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
