UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has issued a message to Conor McGregor after he hinted at fighting the 'Nigerian nightmare'.

McGregor, who is returning at 170lbs against Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, appeared to suggest a fight with the 'Nigerian Nightmare' could be on the cards after posting "145. 155. 170" on Twitter in response to Usman's dominant victory over Colby Covington at UFC 245 on Saturday night.

Usman was asked whether he was interested in fighting McGregor and while he admires what the Notorious one has done for the sport, he says the Irishman would not survive in the Octagon.

"He must want to die," Usman told TMZ when quizzed on McGregor's subtle tweet.

"You saw what Khabib did to him. Like, oh my god. It wouldn't even be fair if I fought Conor. Much respect to Conor for what he's done for this sport and transcended it, but nah, this is not what you want.

"Sit down, little man! Sit down! Learn to walk before you can run because I would hurt that guy."

One fight Usman is well up for is a bout with the legendary Georges St-Pierre, who announced his retirement from MMA earlier this year.

Usman added: "If I had to choose, of course, I want Georges ... I want GSP. One more win and I tie him for consecutive wins and how sweet would that be to actually get that win off him."

Dana White appears to be leaning towards pitting Usman against Jorge Masvidal for the title, but the man himself isn't so keen.

"If you talk about a guy who deserves a title shot it's Leon Edwards," Usman stated.

"This guy hasn't lost since he fought me and he's fought some tough guys."
