Khabib Nurmagomedov was successful in defending his UFC Lightweight Championship against Conor McGregor at UFC 229.

After a heated rivalry and a back-and-forth competition inside the octagon, the Russian was able to lock in a submission on the Notorious in the fourth round and win the match.

Tyson Fury has taken to Twitter (sound familiar?) to offer his verdict on Nurmagomedov vs McGregor.

Unlike his more explosive rants, the self-proclaimed Gypsy King actually praised both of the UFC fighters and even the controversial ending to the match.

The UFC Lightweight Champion sparked headlines across the world after he hopped over the cage, made his way to the McGregor camp and entered into a brawl with them.

Nurmagomedov's team also hit the Irishman in the octagon, with three members of Khabib's camp arrested in response to the attack.

Khabib has since apologised for his reaction in a post-match press conference.

"I want to say sorry to the athletic commission, sorry to Vegas. I know this is not my best side," he said (via the Metro).

"I don't understand how people can say I jumped on the cage. He talked about my religion, my family, he came to Brooklyn and could have killed people on the bus.

"Why are we talking about me climbing on the cage? My father taught me to be respectful. Today, he tapped, the belt is here, undisputed, undefeated UFC Lightweight Champion. This is a respectful sport, not a trash-talking sport.

"I want to change the game, you cannot talk about religion, about nationality. Thank you so much, thank you for waiting.

"Nevada, sorry. Vegas, sorry. [Vladimir] Putin called me and said congratulations."

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old British boxer will take on Deontay Wilder for the WBC title on the 1 December.
