Fan Argued Nate Diaz Would Have 'Finished' Floyd Mayweather Unlike Conor McGregor

Fan Argued Nate Diaz Would Have 'Finished' Floyd Mayweather Unlike Conor McGregor

One fight fan agreed with the view and said they could see Nate Diaz "soundly winning [against Floyd Mayweather] and shocking the world."

A fight fan made a bold claim that Nate Diaz would have been "too big" for Floyd Mayweather and would have beaten him in the later rounds unlike Conor McGregor.

The undefeated Mayweather, 42, clashed with UFC superstar McGregor in a blockbuster boxing bout in 2017 and chalked up his 50th victory with a tenth-round TKO win.

But user Natesblackshirt argued on the Sherdog forum in 2018 that the 34-year-old Diaz would have stood a better chance of beating Mayweather.

Diaz was scheduled to return in 2018 against Dustin Poirier, but his opponent suffered an injury and the fight never materialised.

However, Natesblackshirt asked if a win over Poirier at the time would have made Diaz vs Mayweather the "biggest money fight possible."

The user explained: "Conor is a good striker but he doesn't have the traditional boxing fundamentals the Diaz Bros have and he was still able to go 10 rounds with Mayweather.

"With a win over Poirier would a Mayweather vs Diaz boxing match be the biggest money fight possible?

"I don't think it would make quite as much as MayMac but I think it could come close.

"How do you see the fight going?

"I think Nate is just too big for him and finishes him in the later rounds."

But fans slammed the idea of Diaz beating Mayweather in a boxing match or the fight being more lucrative than McGregor's.

CptJacuzzi responded to the post: "Nah let a Boxer [sic] come to this side of the fence I'm tired of these boxers talking s**t to MMA fighters but refuse to step in the octagon."

While another user argued: "Not sure Nate would be able to handle Floyd's rasslin [sic]. He's been working with Tyron Woodley."

The Bogeyman said: "Just because McGregor uses high level boxing technique doesn't mean he hasn't got the fundamentals. He was training boxing from a very young age and won junior championships."

A fourth added: "Don't think it would sell very well. Nate is a draw but not like that."

While the majority of fans backed Mayweather, one fan argued that UFC star Diaz would stand a chance against 'Money.'

The user explained: "As we all know Nate has an iron chin and Mayweather isn't a power puncher so that eliminates the possibility of Floyd putting him away AND Nate also has elite cardio therefore he wont [sic] gas like Connie did.

"With Nate's volume and pressure there's no way Floyd takes the decision either so I have Nate soundly winning the decision and shocking the world."

Diaz made his sensational return to UFC in August with a victory over Anthony Pettis and is scheduled to face Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title on 2nd November at UFC 244.

The 'Stockton Slugger' dropped a bombshell on Thursday after he suggested that he had tested positive in a doping test.

But UFC has since released a statement, cleared Diaz of any wrongdoings and will push ahead with the headline clash for UFC 244 as planned.
