Diego Sanchez tried to do his best Jorge Masvidal impression at UFC 253.

As the buzzer sounded for the start of his bout against Jake Matthews, 'the Nightmare' was leaning against the cage with his hands behind his back in the style of BMF champion Masvidal.

However, Sanchez went a step further when he decided to channel his inner 'Gamebred' by immediately going for a flying knee attempt on his opponent.

But unlike Masvidal, who knocked out Ben Askren with the stunning maneuver in a record-setting five seconds at UFC 239, Sanchez missed wildly and he was immediately tagged with a left hook.

Masvidal responded on Twitter by giving his seal of approval to the veteran imitating him, while Askren simply wrote, "No way that one hits me".

Sanchez, 38, was well beaten in his bout on 'Fight Island', losing to Matthews via unanimous decision.

But remarkably, Conor McGregor, having leaked DMs with UFC president Dana White where he expressed an interest in taking on Sanchez earlier this year, still wants the fight to happen in the future.

A furious White was not happy with McGregor sharing the messages and also questioned the Irishman wanting to fight Sanchez, which McGregor in turn responded to on Twitter by saying he "was a filler" to get more fights in.

"It's just something you don't do," White said after UFC 253.

"It's one of the dirtiest things you can do, because we were just talking about Diego Sanchez. And Diego Sanchez is in there in a private conversation I was having with Conor.

"When you're the number two or three-ranked guy in the world, and you're telling me that you want to fight, but you want to fight unranked, 39-year-old Diego Sanchez in a main event in Los Angeles..."
