Daniel Cormier will end his UFC career by completing a trilogy of fights with Stipe Miocic and not fierce rival Jon Jones.

UFC star Miocic, 37, stripped 40-year-old 'DC' of the UFC heavyweight championship with a TKO victory at UFC 241 in August.

The former heavyweight champ's future has remained uncertain after his defeat amid retirement rumours.

And Cormier closed the door on a third fight with Jones in favour of completing his trilogy of fights with heavyweight champ Miocic.

The American UFC star told Ariel Helwani's MMA Show: "Win or lose, I'm not fighting again.

"This will be the only time I ever step foot inside the octagon again.

"Next one is the last one, but it has to be Stipe, no-one else matters.

"[UFC] wants me to fight Stipe again, it was a fantastic fight."

'DC' initially won the heavyweight title from Miocic in a stunning victory in 2018 and subsequently defended the championship against Derrick Lewis.

With Miocic winning the rematch, Cormier wants to break the deadlock between the two and end his career on a high note.

But he said that he would have no regret if he suffered another defeat to Miocic.

"If December 14 becomes available, that would work for me," he explained.

"I'd be happy to get myself ready to do that.

"I love to compete and I don't want to finish like this.

"If he's still good enough to beat me under those terms, then it is what it is."

UFC light heavyweight champ Jones, who has fought Cormier twice, launched a scathing attack on his rival after his defeat to Miocic.

The 32-year-old UFC star defeated 'DC' in their first contest at UFC 182 in 2015.

And Jones picked up a second victory over his rival at UFC 214 in 2017, but the decision would later be overturned after 'Bones' tested positive for turinabol.

UFC has not announced an official date for Cormier and Miocic's rematch.
