UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman says Conor McGregor "was silent" when he offered him a title shot.

Usman dominated Jorge Masvidal to successfully defend his UFC welterweight title at UFC 251 on 'Fight Island'.

'The Nigerian Nightmare' won a lopsided unanimous decision to improve his overall MMA record to 17-1 with the 33-year-old revealing that he attempted to lure McGregor out of retirement.

But Usman claims the Irishman went "silent" over a potential championship clash.

"I've offered him a shot! I said, 'Hey if you want it, it's yours, you got it' and he was silent," he told TMZ Sports.

"If Conor wants to put my name in his mouth, then come get some. [A Conor fight is] just a lost cause because we both know Conor."

McGregor is 2-1 at welterweight with wins over Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone, and Usman aimed a dig at his choice of opponents at 170lbs.

"The only time Conor gets up to the welterweight division is if he's able to pick and choose lightweights with double-digit losses that he can pick off and not have to cut weight to get down to lightweight," he added.

"If Conor wants a piece at welterweight, he knows who the king of the division is. I'm not going anywhere! I'm right here."

McGregor, 32, walked away from the UFC last month - his third retirement in four years.

But he continues to be linked with fights despite calling time on his MMA career. A Nate Diaz trilogy bout and a clash against Jorge Masvidal have been mooted.

Dana White insists he "wouldn't be surprised" if the former UFC double champion came out of retirement.

"As of right now, he's retired," he said. "I wouldn't be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out."
