We were hoping for a really good mugshot but we'll take the second best thing, the image of Conor McGregor being walked out of the New York police station he'd checked himself into.

Last night McGregor was involved in an incident outside of the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, where he threw things at a bus carrying numerous UFC fighters and staff after the UFC 223 press conference.

Check out some of our favourite McGregor quotes:

The soon to be former lightweight champion, his belt won't officially be stripped until the lightweight title fight begins on Saturday night, was there to call out potential future opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Russian had been pictured cornering Artem Lobov, who is a teammate of McGregor's, earlier in the week and that had clearly angered the Irishman but his actions on Thursday night went too far.

With police after him he took himself to a police station where he has been since the early hours of this morning. Finally he has emerged with footage showing him being walked out, potentially still in handcuffs:

McGregor was charged with assault and criminal mischief earlier in the day by the New York Police Department.

Khabib was initially meant to be facing Tony Ferguson but he was replaced less than a week ago by featherweight champion Max Holloway. However on Friday that fight was also scupured.

With Khabib having already weighed in he was waiting for Holloway but a doctor told him he wasn't allowed to cut any more on safety grounds putting and end to that fight.

With Lobov also removed from the UFC 223 card because of his presence in the attack on the bus by McGregor and two other fights cancelled, because of injuries to fighters caused in the fracas, the whole event is becoming quite the shambles.
