Conor McGregor was savage when he responded to Twitter abuse that he received in a 2015 video with BT Sport.

The Irish MMA superstar, 32, responded to his harshest 'critics' ahead of his UFC 189 bout with Chad Mendes.

The trash-talking McGregor was in his element and had some incredible lines, including "I'll wipe my tears with my money" and "Who's Katie Hopkins?"

With so much abuse thrown in his direction, McGregor took it on the chin like a champion and equally fired back with relentless comments at his trolls.

The 'Notorious' has been out of the Octagon since he made a sensational UFC return by making quick work of Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout in January at UFC 246.

After a stunning first-round stoppage, the Irishman was said to be eyeing up three fights as part of his comeback in 2020, including a blockbuster rematch with fierce rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

But McGregor claims to have retired from the sport for a third time, his reasons being that nothing excites him as far as getting back in the mix.

"The game just does not excite me, and that's that," he told Ariel Helwani of ESPN in June.

"All this waiting around. There's nothing happening. I'm going through opponent options, and there's nothing really there at the minute. There's nothing that's exciting me.

"They should have just kept the ball rolling. I mean, why are they pushing [Khabib vs Gaethje] back to September?

"You know what's going to happen in September, something else is going to happen in September, and that's not going to happen. I laid out a plan and a method that was the right move, the right methods to go with.

"And they always want to baulk at that and not make it happen or just drag it on. Whatever I say, they want to go against it to show some kind of power. They should have just done the fight -- me and Justin for the interim title -- and just kept the ball rolling."
