In news that will come as a surprise to absolutely fucking no one, the Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather MMA bout will not be taking place.
What will come as a surprise to many, though, is the ever so slightly bizarre tribute McGregor has paid to Mayweather on his official Instagram account, this evening.
There had been rumours that the pair would have a big money rematch following their August boxing match, in which Mayweather comfortably defeated McGregor via 10th round TKO. However, the rematch was scheduled to be inside the UFC octagon, under MMA rules.

Obviously, such a fight would have likely ended within seconds, with Mayweather soundly beaten by the more experienced McGregor, who is the current UFC Lightweight champion.
Mayweather is said to have pulled out of negotiations for the fight, deciding to stay retired, instead. A wise move and one that McGregor seemingly appreciated as well.

The post, which was a picture of the pair coming together during their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, in August, was accompanied by a lengthy caption claiming that the Irishman was happy for Money in his retirement. What does raise eyebrows though is the use of the nicknames 'Junior', 'Senior' and 'son'.
"I am happy for Floyd and his recent announcement that he is out of these current fight negotiations.
"It is the reason I never seeked the rematch in the first place. I was happy for him in retirement.
My game is a very unforgiving one. It is not like other games.
"I understand completely him staying retired. I will now carry on in my negotiations and see where it goes.

"Have a great retirement Junior.
"Now come here and give your old man a hug for old times sake. I'm proud of you son.
Yours truly,
Senior."
Now, Conor, if you could knock the weird Insta posts on the head and sort out a fight with either Tony Ferguson or Khabib, that'd be sound. Ta.
