Dana White has brutally shut down the idea that Canelo Alvarez could face Khabib Nurmagomedov or Jorge Masvidal by insisting that the rumours are "f*****g hilarious."

Mexican boxing sensation Alvarez, 30, recently hit headlines after he filed a staggering $280m-plus lawsuit against DAZN, Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy over a breach in contract.

And a recent report suggested that broadcaster DAZN had been eyeing up a mega-fight between the four-division world champ and Khabib or Masvidal.

Dan Rafael claimed that DAZN considered Khabib, Masvidal and even Golden Boy chief De La Hoya as "premium" opponents for Alvarez.

When UFC president White was asked about the rumours, he admitted that he didn't "even know what to say" in response to the question.

And the 51-year-old slammed the "state of boxing" and asked if people are really "shocked" by the idea of DAZN allegedly wanting to book Alvarez against Khabib or Masvidal.

"That's f*****g hilarious," White said.

"I don't even know what to say to that, that's hilarious you know. Are you shocked? That's the state of boxing. That's where those guys are at."

Alvarez hasn't competed inside the squared circle since his sensational 11th-round KO victory over Sergey Kovalev last November.

The boxing superstar's trainer, Eddy Reynoso, revealed that his fighter would fight Billy Joe Saunders in May.

However, the fight fell through due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite Alvarez's current legal dispute with his promoter and DAZN, the WBC is planning for his next fight to take place against Avni Yildirim for the vacant super-middleweight title.

Alvarez has previously shared a heated rivalry with Masvidal and would be ready to face the 35-year-old UFC star in a blockbuster crossover fight.

Masvidal, who lost to Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 in July, has even teased the idea of facing Alvarez by posting training clips of himself.
