Anderson Silva believes Jon Jones would be the victor if the two ever fought.

The two MMA greats never met inside the Octagon and any potential bout has remained nothing but a fantasy fight between two of the very best champions in UFC history.

Former middleweight king Silva has been referred to as the GOAT by many, including Conor McGregor, but he feels current Light heavyweight champ 'Bones' would beat him if they fought when they were both in their prime.

"Jon Jones," 'The Spider' told ESPN in 2019 after being asked who would win in a fight.

"He's an excellent fighter. I consider him like a younger brother and I believe he is the evolution of this sport."

The reality is we'll never see the pair slug it out - with the he closest they've come to blows being a light-hearted bit of sparring in the street way back in December 2015.

The duo gave fans a glimpse of the game of chess they would conjure up if they ever fought, before shaking hands and embracing in a brilliant moment.

Another dream Silva bout that never materialised was him vs fellow icon Georges St-Pierre. It was mooted back in 2012 but never happened despite both men appearing to be interested in slugging it out.

However during a promotional event with health and fitness brand Limitless in September in Las Vegas, fans got a glimpse of what a square-off between the two legends would look like.

The clamour for Silva-GSP was there after the latter's win over Carlos Condit at UFC 154, with the Brazilian even making the call-out when interviewed cageside.

Unfortunately the UFC were not able to make the superfight happen however and with GSP happily retired since his impressive submission win over Michael Bisping in 2017 - coupled with Silva coming towards the end of his career - there's next to no chance of the former champions ever mixing it up.
