Jose Aldo has responded to Conor McGregor's comments defending his extreme weight cut ahead of his UFC 245.

For the first time ever, Aldo has dropped down to bantamweight and has reportedly cut a whopping 16lbs so he made weight ahead of his bout with Marlon Moraes this weekend.

Fans became incredibly concerned for the Brazilian's physical condition after new pictures of him emerged but McGregor, who knows a thing or two about weight cuts, leapt to his defence on Twitter.

Ahead of his first fight inside the Octagon since May, Aldo was asked about McGregor's comments and was thoroughly appreciative of what his former rival had to say.

"Of course I took it to heart," Aldo told Aaron Bronsteter, from TSN.

"All of the great champions know what type of sacrifice it takes for us to achieve things. The other people, the other fighters, they can only dream of this. So it means a lot to me that it comes from him (Conor McGregor). He is a champion in two-weight classes. He knows the sacrifices that I've had to make and I really take the comment/compliment to heart."

McGregor memorably knocked Aldo out inside 13 seconds four years ago to inflict his first defeat in 10 years at UFC 194 but it's great to see a respect between the pair of fighters nowadays.

The Irishman also gave an explanation as to why Aldo has made the move to bantamweight at this point in his career, wishing well for the new chapter.
