“This is the closest he ever going to submit me....STOP! STOP! STOP!"

It's common knowledge that former two-division world champion Daniel Cormier is one of Khabib Nurmagomedov's closest friends.

Both fighters have trained together at the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, for a number of years - and the pair are often seen having a laugh as they prepare for upcoming title bouts.

In 2019, for example, 'DC' got himself into a spot of trouble when he sarcastically asked his friend if he beat Conor McGregor at UFC 229.

Nurmagomedov promptly responded by saying "I never lose" before jumping on the former heavyweight champion, locking in a chokehold.

Cormier, who was then wrestled to the ground, soon played off Khabib's tight armbar submission, saying: "This is the closest he ever going to submit me!"

But seconds later, reality hit when the American pleaded for Khabib to release, tapping on the Russian fighter's leg.

"Stop...stop....stop! my shoulder!" Cormier said.

It's just one of many hilarious scenes involving the pair.

Back in August 2019, Nurmagomedov and Cormier had a full-blown argument over who paid for dinner eight years ago after the former UFC heavyweight champion asked him to hook up a training session in Dagestan.

When the undefeated UFC lightweight king asked who was paying it for, all hell broke loose between the teammates.

Both fighters were in their respective training camps for their upcoming title bouts when the following conversation went down.

Cormier admitted earlier this year that his teammate Khabib is the strongest fighter he's ever faced.

"The other day we started to grapple, and Khabib jumped on top of me. And, I'm like okay, I'm just gonna get up when I want to, but that is not the case," Cormier said.

"He is literally the strongest person I may have ever felt.

"It was amazing to me to think a guy that weights 175, 180 pounds, was able to do that to me. It's positional control, it's strength. He's a phenomenal athlete, man.

"And, just one of the greatest stars mixed martial arts has ever seen."
