Retired MMA star Chael Sonnen couldn't resist a jab at former rival Jon Jones on his latest podcast.

Sonnen and Jones fought back in 2013 with "Bones" winning by TKO, but the pair have traded verbal blows ever since.

And Sonnen, 42, spoke about his former rival again and insists he doesn't try and put him down, although he is "a little bit rough" on him.

He said: "I never bury Jon Jones - I don't feel like I bury Jon Jones. I really don't.

"I mean, man that guy's really good. I guess you would call that a level of respect.

"But it seems that every time I do a piece on this, somebody takes a small piece of it and tells Jon what I said and Jon has to go to Twitter, Jon has to type out these lines and show that he's angry. He does this all the time and I'm like 'I'm not really sure you heard the piece.'

"I can only imagine Jon Jones licking the coke off his fingers to type out these lines in 160 characters - and then he wants a response.

"Jon, here's my response. I appreciate you typing out lines, and I'd rather see you type lines than snort them."

Jones hasn't responded to Sonnen's latest remarks, but in 2015 he defended his drug use after being caught with a cocaine metabolite called benzoylecgonine in his system.

Benzoylecgonine is not banned out-of-competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency and it was out of his system a week later before he fought Cormier.

He explained: "I'm not a cocaine addict by any means or not even a frequent user.

"I just made a really dumb decision and got caught with my pants down in this whole situation."

He was also given a year suspension in 2016 after testing positive for two banned substances clomiphene and letrozole.
