Paulo Costa Demands Rematch After Disrespectful Humping Incident, Izzy Responds

Brazilian middleweight has got the hump.

Paulo Costa has angrily demanded a rematch with Israel Adesanya and called the UFC middleweight champion "human trash" for his degrading post-fight actions on Saturday.

Immediately after the fight stoppage at UFC 253, with Adesanya on top of Costa, the champ briefly 'dry humped' his opponent before racing off in celebration. Costa did not realise what happened at the time, but has now blasted 'The Last Stylebender' on Instagram.

"Adesanya is human trash," his caption says. "This has become a grave situation! I saw his disgusting action after [the] fight and I will not stop until I have my revenge."

In the video itself, Costa goes on to say: "I disapprove 100%... To me, this is mortal now. Nobody can stop me.

"I want my rematch and you know I will wait for you." The Brazilian goes on to mysteriously hint that "something happened" before their big fight, which impacted him and contributed to his limp and ineffective display on the night.

But Costa has promised the second time will be different, adding: "I'm not [making an] excuse here to my people, to my fans. But I will be 100% to fight him and to make him pay. That's my words. Save my words."

Well, Adesanya has already responded to Costa's words, with a sharp: "I can stop you... again" plus the cruel taunt of a tears of laughter emoji. The unbeaten champ also added a separate one-word: "Dislike" reply, indicating that he sees no point in a rematch.

It is certainly hard for Costa to make the case for one based on what happened inside the Octagon. The 29-year-old suffered a one-sided defeat, broken down by stinging leg kicks until Adesanya mounted him and reigned down blows in the second round, before briefly mounting him in a very different way post-fight.

The Nigerian-born Kiwi did show Costa respect afterwards, shaking his hand and consoling him as they stood together afterwards. But in the immediate aftermath of his win, Adesanya clearly wanted to rub his victory in the face (and other areas) of the challenger after so much bad blood between them in the build-up.

Dana White confirmed that if Jared Cannonier can beat former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 254 in October, then 'The Killa Gorilla' will be next for Adesanya.

So an instant chance for Costa to avenge his first ever MMA defeat seems unlikely, as his title challenge was so uncompetitive. But given the pre-fight - and post-fight - war of words between them, it can probably be put together if Costa can put together some impressive comeback victories starting in 2021.
