Khabib Nurmagomedov appears to have finally been granted his retirement wish after a sharing an image which shows him as the UFC's No 1 pound-for-pound fighter.

Khabib made UFC lightweight title challenger Justin Gaethje pass out after being put in a triangle choke during their UFC 254 clash at the weekend on Fight Island.

Straight after the bout, Nurmagomedov got on the mic and announced he would be retiring from MMA - a move which nobody saw coming.

Khabib eulogised about how his mum made him promise to quit after the Gaethje fight, because of his father's passing earlier this year.

The 29-0 phenom then stated that all he wanted from the UFC, was for them to make him the No 1 fighter in their pound-for-pound rankings.

And it looks like they may have done just that.

Khabib posted a picture on Instagram alongside a caption in which he thanks his father for all of the success in his career.

The image shows a new rankings table where he has been anointed No 1 fighter in the UFC, ahead of Jones.

"It was work of my life, I never got anything easy, and nothing was given to me because I'm nice guy," he wrote on Instagram.

"Hard work, hope for Allah and patience, this three ingredient helps me to get successful, and of course, control and advises from my Father, who invested in me a lot of time and work."

Khabib holds huge UFC wins over Gathje, Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor, Edson Barboza, Michael Johnson and Rafael Dos Anjos.
