Dana White has laid out what needs to happen before Conor McGregor gets his rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

UFC president Dana White discussed the potential rematch on The Rich Eisen Show and said two things need to happen before he signs off on a second meeting.

White said:

"He's (McGregor) gotta beat Cowboy (Donald) Cerrone, which is a very tough fight, especially at 170, w/o Cowboy having to cut weight.

"Then, Khabib has to beat Tony Ferguson. If both of those things happen, then yeah, I think we can make the rematch."

McGregor is set to return to the octagon in January against Cerrone and the endgame is a rematch with the Russian who defeated him back in 2018.

The Irishman hasn't fought since the Khabib defeat and that was his only fight in 2018.

The last time he had more than one fight in a year was 2016 when he became the first ever simultaneous dual-division champion in UFC history.

Many fans on Twitter are shocked that the conditions aren't much stricter for McGregor to face-off with Khabib again.

It was thought 'Notorious' would have to face off with BMF Champ Jorge Masvidal but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Khabib will be occupied with Tony Ferguson in the meantime.

Ferguson has penned a deal to fight the UFC lightweight champion on 18th April 2020 in New York.

The 35-year-old UFC star made an appearance on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show on Monday and sent a clear warning to Khabib ahead of their hotly-anticipated clash.

"I told everybody I'm going to make him piss blood. I said that a while ago," he said.

"This guy has got an issue and his name is Tony Ferguson and I'm coming after him.

"It's hunting season, baby."
