UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has responded emphatically after Jon Jones guaranteed a trilogy fight won't ever happen.

They've fought twice in the famed Octagon with Jones winning both bouts, although their second meeting was ruled a no-contest following Jones' positive drug test for a steroid metabolite.

Cormier went on to become UFC heavyweight champion and Jones is confident he'll never face him again, but Cormier believes he still wants the third fight despite his comments.

"Of course he wants to fight me, he's fought 3 times this year and I'm gonna make more this weekend than he will even if he fights again this year lmao O, how times have changed!"

To which Jones replied by saying: "I said there will be no fight because you won't lose the weight or dare lose a third time. You bring up money...? Way to change the subject bud."

Jones took to social media to say that the only way the contest would happen is if it took place at light-heavyweight because the 205lbs king has no desire in moving up to heavyweight.

But he's convinced Cormier wouldn't be willing to move back down to light-heavyweight.

"Despite what he says to the media, I will guarantee you guys there will be no third fight," he wrote on Twitter. "No way will he lose that weight again, no way will he be willing to reface those nightmares that comes when facing the beast.

"I've been the light heavyweight champion for almost my entire MMA career, never have I moved up to challenge a heavyweight champion. I'm simply not interested in it right now, never seriously have been," he added in another post.

And in a third post, he said: "I feel like the move (to heavyweight) is inevitable but as of right now, I'm dominating fights and making weight just fine. Daniel and I not reverie, but beef started at the light heavyweight division and that's where it should end. (Even though I could've sworn I ended this once or twice already)."

Cormier's still going strong at 40. He initially planned to retire before his 40th birthday, but he'll defend his UFC title against Stipe Miocic this weekend at UFC 241.

Jones, on the other hand, is slated to return to action before the end of the year after eking out a decision victory over Thiago Santos in July.
