Jose Johnson produced a strong contender for 'Knockout of the Year' with one of the most brutal elbows ever.

Johnson fought Rafael Costa in last night's co-main event at Legacy Fighting Alliance 78 and he delivered a vicious knockout just one minute and 59 seconds into the bout.

The American bantamweight was defending a takedown from Costa and unleashed a devastating elbow flush on his opponent's head.

His perfectly placed strike sent his opponent crumbling face-first to the canvas, where he laid motionless in a horrific moment.

Johnson landed another blow before the referee dived into stop the fight. His knockout left the play-by-play commentator in shock: "Oh, brother!" before Pat Miletich said "Dude that was scary."

Costa was okay after that knockout and recovered fast before leaving the cage under his own power.

Johnson improves his MMA record to 7-5 while Costa suffers his third professional defeat of his career.

Naturally, Johnson's extraordinary knockout became the talking point of the online MMA community.

"God this game is vicious," one social media user wrote.

A second Tweeted: "Jesus!! This is scary how can you even enjoy this win."

A third added: "My goodness that was perfect."

Is Johnson's elbow knockout over Costa the best knockout of 2019? Let us know what you think.
