Nick Diaz has dropped the biggest hint yet that he could be returning to the octagon, by giving away tickets to his next fight in a competition on social media.

The elder Diaz hasn't been in action since UFC 183, in January 2015, when he faced Anderson Silva which Diaz lost on decision before the fight was turned into a no contest after both men failed drugs tests.

Diaz has never officially retired and now the 36-year-old has dropped the biggest hint he could soon be back. Posting on social media he said, "WANT TO WIN VIP TICKETS TO MY UFC RETURN?"

"Shop my limited release with FREE Worldwide shipping until midnight at www.dontbescaredhomie.com and follow the rules below for additional entries," as part of a competition.

The former Strikeforce welterweight champion has most recently been linked with a return to face BMF champion Jorge Masvidal.

Gamebred faced Diaz's brother Nate in November, at UFC 244, and things were pretty respectful between the pair, until after the fight.

Nick got annoyed at the use of the word 'baptised' that Masvidal claimed he'd do to Nate. After a back and forth the two men seemed to agree to a fight on social media.

Later Masvidal revealed that his next two fights would likely be Diaz and then a bout with Conor McGregor, who has since confirmed his return to the octagon will be at Masvidal's welterweight, saying"It's looking like we might fight Nick Diaz first next, it's looking like it might be Conor McGregor next. Obviously those fights come first because of the paycheques and everything it brings, while these guys [Usman and Covington] are settling the dust between the hugging championships."

Will Diaz finally return to the octagon and will he face his new rival?
