Zubaira Tukhugov wasn't the only person to make his way into the octagon at the end of Conor McGregor's heated fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov and now fan David Martin has told his story.

There's two types of people when a fight takes place in front of them. Those that want to get involved and those of us whose survival instinct take place and we avoid it like mad.

When Khabib Nurmagomedov launched himself over the octagon to start a fight with one of Conor McGregor's teammates it was no surprise the Irishman tried to stop him and then hit Khabib's brother when the Russian approached him.

What followed was member's of Khabib's team getting into the octagon and hitting the Notorious as all hell broke loose at UFC 229, but you know all that.

What you might not know is that Irish fan David Martin got in the octagon himself to make sure that McGregor was okay. Speaking to USA Today Martin explained his actions:

"I wouldn't say adrenaline took over, I'd say patriotism took over first. I thought Russia was attacking Ireland. I thought a bunch of Russians were jumping in and this guy (McGregor) was tired and beaten down from the fight and was being attacked by what I thought were a bunch of Russian fans.

"I needed to step in. I was thinking my country was calling for me right now and I'm going in.

"Conor was about to get attacked. I put my hands on top of Daniel [Cormier] to leapfrog him because he's not that tall.

"I leaped over him and saw the door (to the Octagon) open and I wanted to get in there and protect my countryman. I thought there were all Russian guys in there and I wasn't having that."

You've got to love that. He thought it was just some random Russian's attacking an Irishman he didn't actually know but national pride took over, brilliant.

Martin even confirmed he spoke to the Notorious during the melee adding, "I was talking to him and I just held onto him and pushed security away with Kavanagh because he didn't want them on him too much, he wanted them to back off a bit. I put an arm on Conor and one on the cage and told him to calm down and breathe. My thing was to calm him down - the last thing I wanted was for Conor to go after everyone."

Dual heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier even confirmed the story saying, "So after the fight, when we all jumped the rail, I'm like in the octagon pushing, and the guy's like checking on Conor. He was like a fan. He was just like a fan that jumped the rail when everyone else jumped the rail and got all the way to the Octagon - he was like checking on Conor.

"I (later) asked my wife, 'Salina, what happened with that guy? Was he with McGregor?' She goes, 'Daniel, after he went and checked to make sure Conor was OK, he just got back in his seat.'"

Who knew the best story to come out of this fight would be about the bravest and most stupid fan that was in the T-Mobile Arena. We doff our caps to you Dan.
